BREATH: We are working hard on our fantastic project
In February, we and the partners from the University of Opole and the University of Zadar will finalize the identification of good practices from the literature review; we have identified the practices at the national level and the partner from the University of Opole is doing the comparative analysis, in which all partners will give feedback and introduce comments.
This month, two of our master's students handed in their theses, focusing on the Breathproject. We are very pleased with the outcome of their work. Good luck to Adélia and Carla in their discussions with the master's jury.
The Erasmus+ and Higher Education Information Meeting took place on February 27, 2025, at the Opole University of Technology, in the "Łącznik" building. The event gathered representatives from universities interested in international cooperation and funding opportunities for academic projects within the Erasmus+ program. Organized by the National Agency of the Erasmus+ Program and the European Solidarity Corps, along with Erasmus+ InnHUB – the Erasmus+ Innovation Center, the conference aimed to provide participants with practical knowledge on Erasmus+ opportunities for higher education institutions.

One of the speakers was Dr. Agata Mroczek from the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Opole, an expert in writing and securing funding for Cooperation Partnerships (KA220) projects. During her presentation in the "Beneficiary Experiences – Guidance on Preparing Erasmus+ Cooperation Project Proposals" module, she introduced the BREATH project, providing insights into its objectives, implementation process, and best practices for preparing successful Erasmus+ cooperation proposals. Additionally, she shared practical strategies on project application preparation, international consortium management, and the implementation of innovative educational solutions in higher education.

Currently, Dr. Agata Mroczek is leading an international project at the Faculty of Health Sciences, titled "A European Collaborative and Innovative Partnership to Promote Physical Activity for Patients with Chronic Respiratory Conditions."
The event served as an excellent platform for knowledge exchange and networking, strengthening international cooperation in higher education and promoting innovative academic initiatives within the Erasmus+ framework.
Conference "Improving rehabilitation and quality of life for patients with chronic respiratory diseases" was held at the University of Zadar.
As part of Work Package 5 (WP5), the University of Zadar organized a conference titled "Improving Rehabilitation and Quality of Life for Patients with Chronic Respiratory Diseases." The event brought together over 40 stakeholders, including healthcare professionals, researchers, students, and patients.
Key findings and outcomes of the project were presented by Associate Professors Marija Ljubičić, PhD, and Ivana Gusar, PhD, from the Department of Health Studies at the University of Zadar. The presentation highlighted the following project components:
- Analysis of local healthcare systems and current practices
- Development of a database of best practices
- Launch of an innovative e-learning platform designed for professionals in healthcare and physical activity sectors
A panel discussion followed, addressing both global and national challenges in the management of chronic respiratory diseases. Topics included the critical role of rehabilitation and the skills and preparedness of healthcare workers. The panel featured insights from doctors, physiotherapists, students, and patients, all united by a shared mission: to enhance the quality of care for individuals with chronic respiratory conditions.
Additionally, an interactive workshop was held, demonstrating the use of a spirometer and the spirometry procedure, providing participants with practical knowledge and experience.
Multiplier Event of the BREATH project, led by Professor Luís Sousa
At the 3rd International Congress of Lifestyle Medicine, held at the Faculty of Medicine in Split, Professor Marija Ljubičić presented the BREATH project, an initiative aimed at improving the health of lung patients through the promotion of healthy lifestyle habits. The congress brought together experts from around the world with the goal of exchanging knowledge on the prevention and treatment of chronic respiratory diseases such as COPD and asthma, major challenges of today's public health.

Presentation of the Breath project at Atlantica internatinal Health Week 2023, on a panel of speakers entitled INNOVATION, RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT, on June 16th in order to sensitize students and health professionals to the importance of physical activity and physical exercise and also disseminate the Breath project to students, health professionals, teachers and researchers.
On April 27, 2024, we had the honor of attending the presentation of the Breath project by Professor Luís Sousa during the seminar “Rehabilitate in the Community - Rehabilitation Projects in the Community: Opportunities, Innovation and Challenges”.
The event was enthusiastically attended by students from the Master's in Rehabilitation Nursing and the Master's in Community Nursing in the area of Community Health Nursing and Public Health. In addition, we welcomed special guests from the context of community health care, further enriching the discussions.

Yesterday we had a meeting to take stock of the Breath project, of which Essatla is part of the consortium, and we also took the opportunity to present the new partner and reschedule the activities and presentation of the results!

In order to sensitize master's students to the importance of physical activity and physical exercise and encourage research in this area, on December 12th we had a workshop for rehabilitation nursing master's students and during this activity it was presented the main topics of the Breath project.
Today, Professor Luis Sousa presented the Breath project at the Health Services Leadership and Management Postgraduate Course!
Participating in the Breath project has allowed me to grow as an investigator, along with my fellow colleagues of the ESSATLA, through the research in this important field of the burden of the chronic respiratory diseases, all across Europe.
The previous meeting at Opole (Poland) also gave me the opportunity to get to know all European partners involved and have a more fully understanding of the specific tasks and work-flow, in order to optimize the research and production of the required documents.
